Animo is an average pop punk band who take themselves too seriously. Their spelling error-riddled press release tries to highlight their D.I.Y. ethos, but honestly, in the era of home recording, online promotion, and technology sharing, there are very few bands that aren’t D.I.Y. in some way or another. Stylistically, Animo play pretty tight poppy punk with decent hooks, interesting dynamics, and a singer who sounds like he’s from a SoCal ska punk band in the late 90s. It’s almost a shame that his voice carries the same lighthearted intonations that make them sound more like a snottier Fat Wreck band, since topically they’re a bit more serious and take definite cues from Bad Religion. Nothing too interesting here, and there are zillions of worse punk bands these days. Just a bit of advice? Find someone to proof your press release.
Bottom Line: Mostly tight and generally catchy pop punk that isn’t anything special, but by no means bad.
