When I first popped in “Too True To Be Good”, I had to check the band member’s names just to make sure that Shelter wasn’t playing under a different name now.
The Arsons have an early 90’s hardcore punk sound that should remind people of the Bouncing Souls self titled album or Shelter’s “Mantra”. Ahh, the days when hardcore used to be used to describe good, fast punk music and not this wannabe Tool-sounding shit that’s out there. Anywho, “Too True To Be Good” was a good old-fashioned sonic kick in the teeth. The songs were fast and tight, the bass was wobbly but solid and there were naked Neanderthals on the CD cover. What more could one ask for?
Having never listened to the Arsons before, their sound was a welcome throwback to the days of good hardcore punk music, yet it was still fresh enough to merit repeat listens.
Bottom Line: Good, fast melodic punk/hardcore that’s over before you know it.
Notable Tracks: Skunk, McNasty, White Noise
