This came with a really nice letter from Awful Quiet’s only member, Jonathan. Jonathan is in a predicament – he lives in a suburb of Cleveland where hip hop is the music du jour and nobody else plays instruments. As such, he plays everything in his band.

Sounds Awful Noisy (har har), but actually, this kid can write and play. The songs are tight, snappy pop-punk, and song-wise, are better than most releases from the emo labels. He’s got a great sense of how to change things up, constructing interesting and different-sounding songs without being eclectic or indulgent. The vocals are strained (possibly from playing other instruments at the same time) and sometimes sappy, but if this kid could find a strong singer and get some time in a good studio, they would produce a lot of good pop punk.

I don’t think he has a myspace account or site, but if you’re curious about the music, or live in the Cleveland area and want to lend a hand, his email is [email protected].

Bottom Line: Loads of potential.
Notable Tracks: All Hours Are Midnight, Extraordinary Ordinary, Nightcaps and Nightmares (almost sounds like a prog version of the Undertones)
