Every once and awhile there comes a CD that just peaks your interest as soon as you put it on. Babylon Circus’ “Dances of Resistance” album is one of those albums! This album came out 4 years ago but it’s being re-released I guess? Babylon Circus has a ska rock sound but classifying them just as ska is stupid. The band is from France and you can tell that Manu Chao is one of their influences. They mix ska, reggae, French rock, Balkan Gypsy music, calypso and salsa. Add in circus music too!

I’ve heard that they have a lively stage show and I can believe it just based on this CD! They sound like they’d be as fun as Gogol Bordello live. Rachid Taha and the Busters also come to mind a little when listening to Babylon Circus. I don’t really know what Babylon Circus is singing about most of the time but it certainly sounds like fun! And isn’t that what matters in the end folks? If you like eclectic bands, then Babylon Circus is a band you really need to check out! Start with this album!

Bottom Line: An excellent and interesting mix of genres rolled into one sound. The Babylon Circus sound!
Notable Tracks: Dances of Resistance, No Competition, J’aurais Bien Voulu, Warlord, Lost in the Jungle
