So what would Jello Biafra sound like if he were from the opposite sex? Probably very much like Willia van Houdt, lead singer and guitarist for the Dutch punk band in which this review is about. Bambix find themselves on Go-Kart Records, but the thing about it is that they don’t sound like the stereotypical Go-Kart band. In fact, I’m reminded a lot of some of the earlier 90’s female punk bands, Tilt in particular. They do have some rock similarities and remind me a bit of the Guano Apes as well.

“Club Matuchek” is a pretty good punk album from the get go. There are a lot of high-energy punk anthems but it’s not really something that you haven’t heard before. You pretty much get one straight-up punk tune after another, which isn’t a bad thing…it’s just drawn out and I find the album becoming redundant towards the middle. The backside of the album does provide a few gems. “Jester” is probably the best tune on the album. It’s got that melodic Bouncing Souls/ALL sound with the dangly bass lines and really fast guitar work.

Bambix are no slouches for sure. “Club Matuchek” is a fast-paced punk album that is full of energetic little ditties and interesting vocals. The only problem is that the originality is lacking. This isn’t a knock on the band, who are great musicians and can really rock out…it’s just that I’ve heard this same album hundreds of times before.

Bottom Line: One of those punk albums that you’ve listened to a million times
Notable Tracks: Jester, Spotlight, Coupe Turn Off
