What do you get when you mix GWAR with a little bit of the Aquabats and some Frank Zappa? No, not an interesting radio show but Bloody Wall Of Gore, of course! Greetings From Planet BWOG is freakin’ all over the place and in a good way.
BWOG leans more towards a thrash metal sound but mixes that sound up with some funk as well as some Devo-esque keyboarding. You really don’t know what to expect with each passing track. The songs range from semi-normal (“As Well”, “Showdown At Kappa Sig”) to the outright ridiculously weird (“X-Lax Orgasm”, “Squid Sex”).
Some of the songs seem to follow the same formula of starting off slow, brining in the funk and then basically becoming a death metal song. This doesn’t happen often but enough to make you want to end certain songs early but like I mentioned before, the songs are all over the place so if you skip a certain part, then you might miss out on a kick-ass guitar solo or a groovy bass line.
Bloody Wall Of Gore brings out the sound of GWAR but they’re varied a lot like the GWAR side project called The Dave Brockie Experience. You can’t lump them into one specific music genre and although they’re not the most original band out there, you do manage to find something that really puts a spin on the word “alternative”. Greetings From Planet BWOG is fun, crazy, scary, weird and very disturbing…and I mean that from the bottom of my sludge filled heart.
Bottom Line: GWAR Jr. plans to take over the world.
Notable Tracks: Grandpa Says, As Well, Long Johns, Christmas In Funk Swamp
