BovaChevo play downkey, heavy rock that rocks out in an accessible, groove-laden way that reminds me of an instrumental Black Flag. The music is good and straightforward, but it all feels like a big intro to something. Their songs are primed and ready for some angry shouting to commence, and that lack of vocals gives them an empty feel, as if you’re listening to a studio demo that doesn’t have the vocals tracked yet.

Then again, given how much I hate most hardcore vocals, maybe the absence is a good thing. The band is certainly good in any case, but their sound leads you to expect something louder and cathartic to take shape and explode.

Bottom Line: Where’s the beef?
