Singer/songwriter isn’t normally my cup of tea, but I dug Broken Poets. The deep, dramatic vocals remind me of a cross between Michael Stipe and the guy from Tindersticks, and the music is ballady and lush, but driven in its own way. I even preferred the slow-tempo stuff to the occasional toe-dips into rock and pop.

Is this good enough to transcend the crappitude of the genre, or am I just getting soft in my old age? In any case, I’m putting on some Ramones now.
