I would still like to see In Bruges because it looks like a good action-thriller movie starring Colin Farrell, Brendan Gleeson and Ralph Fiennes. The movie is about a pair of hitmen, who go off hiding in the Belgium city of Bruges. The score is done by composer Carter Burwell, who has worked on the majority of the Coen Brothers & Spike Jonez movies; plus Ronin, Rob Roy, Mystery Alaska and many more.
The film score by Burwell is very piano heavy, creating a depressing & dark setting. I haven’t seen the movie yet but I’m sure the score supports what’s being shown on the screen. Is Bruges a dark & cloudy place because that’s how the score comes across; that this place is just not that fun to be in. Or maybe it’s just the subject matter of the movie? There is 24 tracks in total with the majority of them just over a minute each. I guess Burwell likes to have short tracks huh? There’s a few bands/artists on here like The Dubliners, The Walkmen, Townes Van Zandt, The Pretenders and Andreas Schmidt. I didn’t really find the score all that special, and found it too dark & slow for my tastes.
Bottom Line: The score is too dark and slow.
Notable Tracks: ‘St. John The Gambler’ – Townes Van Zandt, ‘On Raglan Road’ – The Dubliners, Ray at the Mirror, Walking Bruges
