I guess that you could call Chasing Victory screamo-core rock. They aren’t quite emo, they scream a lot and they do have a harder sound at times. I really don’t like any of those genres, especially the first two, but I would have to say that there were a few decent songs on “Fiends”.

First of all, all of the songs have subtitles but I’m not going to use them. I’m going to use the lazy writer/easy to type song titles like “Brides” and “Zombies”. Most of the songs on “Fiends” sound like the band was just pissing around with different arrangements and just said, let’s do that followed by this. The songs were good were the more laid back rock songs that appear more towards the end of the album. “Brides” is a faster rock song with some slower parts and “Kings” is a steady-paced chug-a-lug rock song.

“Fiends” starts off terrible but gains a lot more momentum towards the end of the album when the band seems to embrace the rock sound and give up on the screaming. They still sound emo though.

Bottom Line: “Fiends” starts off as one kind of album and ends up as another.
