We Are Marshall seems like a movie I would like. I love inspiring & emotional sports movies and We Are Marshall seems like that type of movie. Christophe Beck composed an emotional, but uplifting score and it’s on par with Rudy and The Natural I think. The film is about the true story of 1970s plane crash that killed most of the Marshall University’s football team. After the plane crash, the University and surviving members of the Football team have to move on and overcome the tragic event. Matthew McConaughey stars as the new head coach, along with Matthew Fox.

“We Are Marshall” score starts out with the theme of the movie. It’s somber, slow and you hear it throughout the movie. It kind of has a military vibe to it, with slow trumpets. But I guess that’s more of a college football band sound more than anything. I really love the theme though. The middle of the score is slower than the rest of the album and that’s because of the plane crash, and everything following that. In a few tracks, snare drums kick in and sort of throw off the slow melody. So if you are like me, and like to listen to scores while you sleep; this one might have a few songs that might startle you out of your sleep. But the tracks with the drumming are great action cues, and still worth listening to. A good example of that is the song “Marshall vs. Xavier.” I haven’t heard too many score from Christophe Beck, but this film score I enjoyed a lot.

Bottom Line: A surprisingly good score from Beck.
Notable Tracks: Theme from We are Marshall, Aftermath, Remembering, Marshall vs Xavier
