Emotional, gloomy indie rock. They’re actually a throwback to an earlier use of “emo” – the sadsack indie rock of Promise Ring and Sunny Day Real Estate and such.

The singer reminds me a little of the guy from the Shins, but less distinctive. The music swings from sparse and subtle to densely produced. I prefer the latter; after all, who wants to listen to some depressed shmo and his guitar? So with that in mind, my fave song here is “Until We Get There” – overproduced, yes, but with type of music, you really need loads of cool sounds and shifts to sit through it. “U.F.O.” is also cool – it’s got a crazy jazzy beat over a wash of ambience.

See, if these bands are gonna be all serious and shit, they better do some interesting things. Coho still likes to be straight up, but they show promise of mixing things up on their middle songs, adding bells and whistles and shit.

Bottom Line: Sadsack indie with some garnish.
Notable Tracks: Until We Get There, UFO, Said and Done
