Wanted is an action flick that stars James McAvoy, Morgan Freeman and Angelina Jolie. The movie is loosely based on the graphic novel by Mark Millar. Tapped to do the score is composer Danny Elfman. Wait a minute, this isn’t a Tim Burton movie? Hmm. Anyway, the film is about Wesley Gibson who’s given the chance to avenge his Father’s death, who happened to be an assassin. His Father’s partner Sloan invites him to follow in his Father’s footsteps and he gets mentored by Jolie’s character.

The movie opens this weekend so I obviously haven’t had the chance to see it yet. So I can’t tell you how well the score works with the movie. At first I thought the movie looked laughably bad, but after seeing more previews it doesn’t look that bad. But on with the score! Danny Elfman delivers an exciting action score and plus he provides us with a brand new original song, sung by him. The song starts off the album and it’s called “The Little Things.” The song is rockin’ and I wish Danny Elfman would sing more stuff. Put down the baton and pick up the guitar sometime will ya! The score has a lot of computerized action cues in it, but there’s also some slower, orchestrated tracks as well. The Wanted score has that Elfman signature sound filled with dark motifs and it gives you a sense that a lot is happening on the screen. Based on the score alone, it makes me want to see the movie. Whether or not Wanted is worth seeing is the question.

Bottom Line: This is one of the better Elfman scores of recent memory
Notable Tracks: The Little Things, Success Montage, Fraternity Suite, Rats
