Cooking Vinyl is now putting out scores? Weird. Anyway, I haven’t seen this flick yet, though I hear it’s good, if not the self-described “best horror movie since Alien.” The score is very subtle and sparse most of the pieces I could barely make out, and the others are simply notes that are held long in a minor key, that classic approach to breath-holding suspense.
Midway through the movie, the score reflects cavernous echoes, droning like the mood music from many pretentious avant-garde video installations my wife drags me to. Creepy, minimalist and serious, the score gives a good idea of the tone of the movie, though if you’re listening to this for fun, you might wonder how many of 70-person orchestra showed up for the recording.
Bottom Line: If you listen really carefully, you might hear some music.
