DVOA have been around for awhile, putting out challenging ambient and lofi electronica albums for the enjoyment of, umm, I dunno… who listens to this stuff?
DVOA’s sound is creepy, minimalist noise, much like the background spooky stuff to video art pieces in contemporary museums, or the cheesy casio music in c-level horror movies. Their new album won’t exactly shake your booty. Sometimes you have to turn it all the way up to hear it at all, but then you hear it and get creeped out. Percussion is like sizzling skin while hammers fall on anvils; harmonic and chanted notes are held for impossibly long minutes, and nature sounds are spliced in to give you a rainforest-in-hell soundscape.
Shit will give you nightmares.
Bottom Line: The soundtrack to pretentious video installations.
