Delroy Wilson got his start under the guidance of Sir Coxsone Dodd, and he was very young when he started out. I believe he was around the age of 12 when he first auditioned for Dodd. It took awhile for Dodd to take Wilson under his wing since he was unimpressed with him at first but when he finally got the chance, he recorded some great ska & rocksteady songs. Heartbeat Records re-issued this album in 1991, and now they have reissued it again, part of their Studio One re-issue campaign celebrating the life of the late Sir Coxsone Dodd.

Delroy Wilson passed away in 1995 and after 11 years, his name is still being mentioned for being one of the most reliable hit makers of Studio One. I have to be honest though, I haven’t heard of him until I got this album to review. I’m sure I’ve heard some of his music before, just didn’t know it was him. His songs contain soft melodic singing, backed by ska and rocksteady music. This album was originally 12 songs but now Heartbeat has included some bonus tracks that haven’t been heard on CD before. Besides that, they also remastered the sound quality. For not knowing of Delroy Wilson before this, I certainly became a fan after hearing this re-issued Cd.

Bottom Line: Delroy Wilson may not be that know among the ska/rocksteady scene, but this is still a strong Studio One release.
