Pitch-perfect organ-driven ska/reggae in the style of Evening Time-era Jackie Mittoo. They’ve got that vintage 1960s sound down – from the Hammond organ sound to the vinyl-like pops and crackles to the abrupt ends of each song.
I absolutely adore Jackie Mittoo, so I loved this. This album sounds like something discovered from the Studio One vault. But it’s not a cheap if flattering imitation – Erin Bardwell is a seriously talented pianist, and the melodies, arrangements, and bass rhythms are all top-notch. It’s good not just because it sounds like Jackie Mittoo, but simply because it’s great music.
