Obviously Evaline must be gaining some good momentum. They’re on this upcoming Taste of Chaos tour with all of those other heavy emotional rock bands. And I can see why. The band plays a polished, well-produced, and dense rock sound, filled with a bit of emo, ambient, and post-punk flavours. It actually ends up creating some very listenable music. The band is really tight, and do their best to avoid some generic cliches, especially with the addition of the keyboards, synths, and acoustic guitars.
Unfortunately, the songwriting really isn’t all that interesting. It’s the same old emo-rock sound without the big hooks. I can completely see how these guys could get big, and how people might enjoy this. I was really excited when the EP began with an electric piano before the standard distorted guitar rock came in. I wonder if these guys would be more interesting if they put more keys and synths and less guitar. It would set them apart a whole lot more. Because they have the potential to be pretty good.
Bottom Line: Up-and-comers issue a nice-sounding but structurally hollow debut EP.
