Don’t let the no-frills demo fool you – this is good stuff. The Explicits are a recently-formed three-piece from Jacksonville, FL, and they rock out a punk/metal hybrid that actually works.
The vocals are rough and guttural, but more in a scratchy crust/gutterpunk way than the scary thrash/metal style. The metal part comes from the guitars that sometimes fly into Iron Maiden breakneck-but-melodic mode. It’s cool when they riff, and they smartly don’t overdo it. The fourth track even has a drum solo, which is the one thing I miss since getting into punk.
For a crusty, metally band in their teens (they’re all 19, I think), this 5-track demo is surprisingly cohesive and maturely produced. Keep your eye on these guys.
Bottom Line: 5 tracks of above-average blistering punk with melodic metal flair.
