Dan Andriano, Todd Mohney, Neil Hennessy and Brendan Kelly make up the Chicago-based punk band The Falcon. Those guys are/were in bands like Lawrence Arms, Slapstick, Alkaline Trio and Rise Against. I’m a fan of Slapstick and Rise Against so I was interested in hearing how this was going to turn out. I’ve always been on the fence when it came to Lawrence Arms. I guess it depends on what type of mood I’m in. I’ve never really been a fan of AK though.

The first song from “Unicornography” is called “The Angry Cry of the Angry Pie” and i’m not sure why I don’t like it, I just don’t. Too much screaming, I don’t know? The next two songs definitely make up for the first song, and have a little bit of a ska-punk upstroke. Actually the rest of the album are like those songs. Folkie ska-punk is probably the best way to describe their sound. Brendan’s vocals sound good in some songs, and then it sounds just down irritating in others. But thankfully it’s not that bad and this album is definitely worth listening if you’re a fan of Lawrence Arms. I prefer the poppy punk/skapunk songs to the normal punk songs. I think Brendan’s voice fits the songs best when he’s singing over a ska riff or the music is slowed down a bit. Bottom Line: After the first song, that’s when the album gets good.
