What’s Taters, precious? No, this isn’t the feature debut album from Lord of the Ring’s Gollum. Though, that would make for an interesting album! This is a gypsy folk/Eastern European style band from New York. This is being described as gypsy punk, but I don’t really hear the punk in their music. Maybe one or two songs. I’m sure many of Gogol Bordello fans will appreciate this music, and then some of you will probably be scratching your heads as to what this is suppose to be. I’ll tell you one thing, it definitely takes more than one listen to get into Golem!

This band is really eclectic and strange to me. I haven’t really listened to this type of music before, besides Gogol Bordello. The male singer’s singing style is similar to Eugene’s, but has a Yiddish flare to it. One things for certain, Golem’s music will make you dance. Dance in a chair, dance on the dance floor, dance anywhere really. Featured on this album is Mike Gordon of Phish, Amanda Palmer of The Dresden Dolls, and Lenny Kaye of Patti Smith’s band. If you are curious to hear what they sound like, visit their www.myspace.com/golemrocks Myspace page to get a taste of Golem! I was pleasantly surprised that I liked this album. I don’t think the band is as good as Gogol but there are quite a few interesting tunes on this album. Check it out!

Bottom Line: Interesting gypsy folk rock band
Notable Tracks: Mazel, Bublichki,Charlatan-Ka
