About time Hans Zimmer released an album this year. Though I’m not too sure about this album. Some tracks are great but some leave me wanting more or something else. I haven’t seen the movie yet but I know it has to do with Africans and U.S. marines or whatever. That’s basically what the whole album is though, African singing & chanting. This album is very similar to Zimmer’s other albums like Power of One, The Lion King and Black Hawk Down. One problem that might come up when watching this film, is you might see Bruce Willis running, and all of a sudden the music will make you think that you’ll see Simba running along with him. Maybe Hans might need to use different singers here and there and don’t get the viewer confused. Lebo M.& Lisa Gerrard provide the many vocals throughout the score and Hans has worked with both of them many times. A lot of the tracks are 8 minutes long or around that and that’s fine sometimes, but I also like the smaller tracks as well. I got ADD so I can only listen to tracks for so long. I was a little disappointed with the film score Zimmer, I thought it would be something more grander and more exciting but this score was fairly quiet for a lot of the time. I hope Hans comes out with a better score for his next film.
Bottom Line: African themed score by Hans Zimmer, very similar to Power of One and Lion King
