The long awaited Simpsons movie is upon us and with that, comes a score cd with Oscar Winning composer and a personal favorite, Hans Zimmer. Everything you know and love about The Simpsons can be found on the cd. A new orchestrated version of the Main titles is featured as well as all the score music heard throughout the film, including the silly track, Spider Pig, which I find very enjoyable even though the film’s version of Homer singing Spider Pig is not included.
The score music went very nicely with the rest of the film, but as its a cartoon, it felt very flat and couldn’t really pull away any real cues or themes besides the television themes; I was disappointed with the music. Normally, Zimmer can adapt to the different kinds of films he works on but this score didn’t hold my attention very long. With the score, you get a few different interesting tracks like “Release The Hounds,” “Bart’s Doodle,” and “Spider Pig,” the rest feel like generic, temp music put in place while the real score is being worked on.
Bottom Line: Not the best outing for a long running series now movie, and the music is pretty disappointing. It could have been longer with cuts from the film, music from Green Day and more interesting themes to remember the film for.
Notable Tracks: Spider Pig, The Simpsons Theme, Release The Hounds, Recklessly Impulsive
