Last year, I remember reading about a live concert of Hans Zimmer. He doesn’t usually do concerts, so this must have been a pretty big event over in Europe. Hans even said that in the liner notes: “Let me make this very clear; I do not perform in front of people. I don’t play at parties, weddings, etc…I am not the guy you’d want to call to play for you. Ever.” I think he could have played some better songs on this comp. but I’ll take what I can get. He’s my second favorite movie composer, behind John Williams of course. I wished he included “The Battle” from Gladiator, or maybe “The Rock.” I’m sure he played them live, just didn’t put them on CD. The Gladiator songs he has on this CD are “Now We Are Free,” with Lisa Gerrard and “Am I Not Merciful.” He also included some songs that made him very popular in the movie score business. Like the theme to “Driving Miss Daisy,” and songs from The Lion King. I recently just got the Power Of One soundtrack and it’s awesome with great African music, and songs that Zimmer composed. “Mother Africa,” is one of the songs from Power Of One, and Lebo M and Keswa help out with that one, plus others from Lion King. Live CDs never really do the artist or band justice, but I guess this is the closest we’ll get of hearing Hans Zimmer play a performance. Hans Zimmer fans will enjoy this live CD very much.
