The Hedrons is a four-piece all-female band from Glasgow. Their sound is garagey, energetic and swaggering. The first track, the Runaways-esque “Heatseeker,” shows how good they could be at midtempo trashy rock.

Unfortunately, the rest of the album doesn’t rise above mediocrity often enough. The riffs are rarely catchy, and the vocals always need the chorus parts and background vox to give the songs some distinction. There are some good, memorable songs (see Notable Tracks), but I also found myself wanting to skip through many of the others.

But don’t write them off – this might not be the perfect album, but it’s a good debut, and they certainly have more balls than most bands today.

Bottom Line: 80% Runaways, 20% Donnas, but needs better songwriting.
