These guys have the perfect sound that will make them huge among the new Warped Tour crowd. Polished, energetic, and snappy like mall punk, but with a dance punk beat and an emo-like progressiveness to songwriting and lyrics. Their cherry on top is the vocals that are both emo and hipster listless, with an occasional Strokes-like effect.
I hate to admit it, but they sound great. The dance punk really makes it work and separates them out from all the other bands targeting kids struggling with puberty-related angst. Of course, a piano ballad like “Heaven on the Horizons” grounds me back to reality and points out their pathetic pandering to lame emo kids.
I dunno, I’m torn and leaning more toward hating them for their lameness. Okay, they do it well. But it’s still emo, it’s still lame, and it may rock a tiny bit and sound good but I still don’t respect them. And that is the most important thing of all.
Bottom Line: Perfectly crafted for the kids.
