House of Heroes have a sound that I really can’t figure out. It’s heavy like punk, but really melodic and not all that fast. It’s also not really emo, nor is it power pop. It shares a bit of similarity with all of those things, but really doesn’t end up being all that much in the end. It’s not bad, but there’s really nothing that exciting here that you haven’t heard before. A bunch of four chord songs with a few nifty breaks, largely uneventful songwriting and a few changeups. But there’s really not enough diversity and variation on here to make it stand out. Okay, there’s one song I really like, Mercedes Baby’, which does the really cheesy whaoooo-whaoooo’ singalong chorus type of pop punk. But other than that, there’s nothing that makes me really want to hear it again. So in conclusion, more of the same, punky rock, decent vocals, but nothing to make them special.
Bottom Line: You’ve heard it before. Same old, same old.
