John Powell has become one of my favorite film composers. He has composed a lot of great scores, mainly in the comedy and action genres. Some of the films he scored have been movies like Chicken Run (with Harry Gregson-Williams), The Bourne trilogy, The Italian Job, Robots, Shrek, Rat Race and X-Men: The Last Stand. His latest score is for the sci-fi movie Jumper; which was directed by Doug Liman who directed Bourne Identity & Swingers. The movie stars Darth Vader and Mace Windu (Hayden Christensen and Samuel L Jackson). The movie is about a guy who teleports, which is something I always wanted to do. That way I don’t have to deal with annoying things like getting stuck in traffic and not having to pay for airfare.

As far as the score is concerned, I’m kind of disappointed in it because I thought it would have been more thematic like the Bourne scores or something. The Jumper score was fairly quiet and not that exciting. It seemed more like background noise than anything. Towards the end it got a little more exciting but as a whole, I wouldn’t want to listen to this again. I just wish John Powell did this score differently. Maybe I’ll like this once I see Jumper?

Bottom Line: Not his best score.
