I’m a big fan of John Williams and I’m glad he finally came out with another CD. If you buy the soundtrack before seeing the movie, there will be spoilers! I always find out the hard way with John Williams cds. Why can’t he rename it so people don’t run into that sort of thing. Anyway, the first track “The Patriot” is far the best track on the CD and parts of that song show up in a lot of the other tracks as well. The song starts out with a nice quiet violin solo and then breaks in with some battle flutes (which I love to hear!) and then blends into the reoccuring theme of The Patriot. After you listen to this score, you whistle and sing the theme to this movie, that’s how good this Cd is. I think that’s something Xmen was missing. A good theme song and score is what makes a movie good I think. That’s one of the reasons why I liked Gladiator so much. The score is so brilliant, plus the fighting scenes make it the best of the year I think. Back to the Patriot, one track that I liked is Redcoats At The Farm and..(spoiler).” There was one part of that song that I really like, and wish it was longer. It’s the part when Benjamin Martin runs and gets his hatchet and gun from his house. Other notable tracks are “Preparing for Battle” and “Martin vs. Tavington.” It’s a fairly good score but it’s definitely not one of his best. It’s still good though, don’t get me wrong. John Williams fans will be pleased with this CD.
