I keep seeing Klaxons name popping up on NME and Pitchfork Media so I figured I would finally check out this band from the UK. I’ve only had the CD since January haha. I had no idea what style this band plays and still can’t put my finger on it. One could describe them as weird or indie or rave or artsy, or punk or pop rock, etc etc.. See, I told you I can’t put this band into one genre. I guess people are declaring this band new wave or nu wave? Whatever they are, I like it!
I actually think I remember hearing one of these songs somewhere and that’s “Golden Skans.” I believe that might be their single and maybe it played in some commercial over here in the States? Who knows. I think if these guys were from the U.S, I wouldn’t like them but I seem to like most British bands. American bands can be so damn boring and Klaxons is certainly not boring. Some of the songs get a bit annoying after awhile though. They also get too rave-ish & unusual but once songs like “Golden Skans” or “Gravity’s Rainbow” come on, I can overlook the bad songs. If you like bands like The Cure, Kaiser Chiefs, and Arctic Monkeys; you’ll really like Klaxons!
Bottom Line: Very impressive debut album!
Notable Tracks: Atlantis to Interzone, Golden Skans, Totem of the Timeline, Gravity’s Rainbow, Forgotten Works
