Leftover Crack and Citizen Fish have similar music styles & political views; so it’s kind of a no-brainer to have a split CD with the two ska punk bands. I’ve been really looking forward to this album since It’s been quite awhile since Citizen Fish released anything new . I’ve never really been a fan of Leftover Crack or Choking Victim so there’s only one part of the album I really wanted to hear. Though, in all honesty, Leftover Crack’s songs weren’t that bad and I liked a few songs but I still have complaints about their music. I think their sound is really messy, and the music doesn’t really flow. The guitar upstroke sounds like a 12 year old is playing guitar on the album. But I can’t really talk since I can’t play any instrument.
Citizen Fish’s songs in the beginning of the album were very horn-driven, which I like. Then after the first few songs, they go into a more punkier style which is fine too. Each band on the split cover each other’s songs. Citizen Fish covers Leftover Crack’s “Clear Channel (Fuck Off)” and Choking Victim’s “Money.” Leftover Crack covers Citizen Fish’s “The Super-market Song” and also cover the Subhumans’ “Reason for Existence.” I loved all the CF songs, and hope they decide to make a full-length album next time. Or even better, hearing some new music from the Subhumans would be awesome!
Bottom Line: If you like either band, you’ll like this album.
Notable Tracks: Working on the Inside, Meltdown, Join the Dots, Baby Punchers, Supermarket Song
