I sense a Swedish takeover. With more and more awesome bands from the Scandinavian country getting international exposure, it won’t be long before everything is Ikea, hockey, and artists like Loney, Dear. But I, for one, would be okay with that.
Let me just say that this album is absolutely fucking amazing. Halfway between simple bedroom folk and orchestral indie pop, Loney, Dear takes everything that is good about both genres and write some catchy songs to boot. They also doesn’t waste time. The album is scarcely more than a half hour, but in that time it hits all kind of emotions, has sonic highs and lows; the group goes from a lone guitar and vocals to a swelling casio-tinged, background female vocal-laden chorus in the first thirty seconds of the leadoff track I Am John.
This is the kind of album that will hopefully get a bunch of good press and become one of those indie classics. So get your listen on and tell them you knew about Loney, Dear before they took over the world.
Bottom Line: Awesome, super-catchy indie pop songs that will be stuck in your head for days.
