If you have recently had a hankering for some quality sounding 90’s style punk rock, look no further than MakeOutMusic’s latest release, Get Off My Soapbox. Their sound that is a smashing blend of west coast punk and east coast hardcore. MakeOutMusic is doing its part to put this hard and fast sound back on the map where pop and screamo have been running rampant.

The six tracks featured on Get Off My Soapbox seem to be over just as the album gets going. In its entirety, the EP is a whopping twelve minutes long; but that’s what’s great about a band like MakeOutMusic, their songs appeal to an ADD afflicted society, and allow us to relive our not-so-distant pasts. The songs are reminiscent of older Unwritten Law, Good Riddance and older NOFX; what more can a 20-something punk rocker ask for? There is even an overt political message on the first track, “Dedication(s)”.

The best song on the album is the final track, “Standing In The Shadows of Giants”. Not only is it the most lyrically intelligent song on the album, but the production sounds great and the song writing stands out among the other five. Also, the vocals sound stronger on this track than they do on other parts of the album where they seem a bit lacking. The title track, “Get Off My Soapbox” comes in as a close second, followed by “Watchoogotindatbag” which is great not just because of its clever title. Overall, this is a quality album from a quality band who is doing their part to play what they like to hear, because we like to hear it too.

Bottom Line: MakeOutMusic’s Get Off My Soapbox is a quality way to spend any twelve minutes, so check it out.
