Matt Pryor has been in bands like the Get Up Kids, The New Amsterdams, and The Terrible Twos. Now he has a solo album out on Vagrant Records.
I’ve actually never listened to any of those bands, and only heard a few tracks from The Get Up Kids. This album was recorded in Pryors home studio in Kansas and it actually sounds good. I dont mind when rock musicians release folk/acoustic albums since I like that genre a lot. Others will probably hate this CD, who knows though.
Confidence Man contains 15 tracks in total, and I liked a lot of the songs. You have to be in the right frame of mind to listen to this. Pryors voice and songs are very mellow and soothing; so lets just say this isnt something to listen to at the gym. My favorite songs on this album are when the banjo is included. Theres just something about a banjo that makes songs sound better. Im actually looking forward to the next solo album by Matt Pryor. That is, if he continues making folk albums like this.
Bottom Line: Excellent solo album from former Get Up Kids frontman
Notable Tracks: Still Theres a Light, Only, On How Our Paths Differ
