Let me start off saying Metallica is one of my favorite bands, and I still did not enjoy this album. I tried. I even tried sticking up for them , but after listening to it a few more times, I got even more annoyed.Remember the days of ‘Master of Puppets’ and ‘Ride the Lightning’? Remember how amazing Metallica was. Complicated solos, great lyrics, and just so much power and aggression. They were truly the BEST metal band I’ve ever heard. I’m sure many would agree with me. Something happened to Metallica worse than Load or Reload, they just might be ruined all because of ‘St. Anger’: The first song ‘Frantic’ starts off, well, good…then downhill from there with lyrics like “my lifestyle determines my death style….frantic tick tick tick toc”.What the hell? I decided to keep on listening. Next we come to the first single ‘St Anger’. Ok this one isn’t TOO bad, I like the chorus, but it’s too much of a scattered song. None of it fits. None of the songs on this CD make sense. When I got up to track 5 ‘Invisible Kid’ I was liking what I heard, then it just got stupid towards the middle, James Hetfield has turned into Fred Durst (singing not rapping good god the CD would have been broken if that happened). It only gets worse, there are NO solos. Kirk Hammet has gotten lazy and forgot how to play. James Hetfield, like I said before, is trying to be Nu Metal, the drums sound too loud and drown out most of the music, Lars must enjoy playing with his cymbols because that’s all you can hear during random parts in songs. As for the bass playing, they used Bob Rock on the album, nothing spectacular since you cant even hear him. Why pay a top producer to make your album sound like crap? It has an old sound to it, kind of like ‘Kill ’em All’. Are they trying to fool us? There are a few songs that sound like jam sessions, maybe that’s what ‘St. Anger’ is, they put it out accidentally. Why else would the songs make absolutely no sense. Hey, if I wanted a ‘nu metal’ album I would have bought the new Limp Bizkit or Korn CD. I guess this explains why they’d tour with Limp Bizkit and Linkin Park. I’m curious to see how they sound live now, but it might end up being a waste of money, much like the CD is. I now appreciate Load and Reload ALOT more after this. I’d rather listen to Call14.

Bottom Line: I hate to say it, but absolutely not worth buying. Download it and then use it as a frisbee
Notable Tracks: ‘St Anger’ (at least parts of this song are pretty good), ‘Invisible Kid’ (until he turns into Fred Durst), the last song is not too bad either
