When I saw this CD, my first thoughts were “What the fuck is Victory doing? Who the hell are these guys? Why do my armpits smell like tuna fish? Does God dream about me?” My thoughts tend to wander.

Anyway, I popped it in and was blown away. Not so much by the music, but by the fact that this music was put out by Victory. Death metal name aside, Moros Eros are an off-kilter post-punk meets dorky indie rock band. And you know what? The music does blow me away. This is good stuff.

Moros Eros are melodic, interesting, and progressive. The vocals are somewhere between dorky and spazzy, but endearing rather than irritating. The guitars are tinny and repetitive and almost unnecessary; the songs are really carried by the excellent percussion and the vocal lines that cut a bright path through dark melodies.

Kudos to Victory for putting out a very un-Victory album. This is their most surprising CD since Catch 22’s “Keasby Nights.”

Bottom Line: Wonderfully spazzy indie rock on… Victory??
Notable Tracks: When I Wake, Now the Sun Shines Bright, I Will Come Back Again
