The first song is an awesome romp of pounding drums and distorted vox and really cute melodic lines. Then the second song is awful emo-pop. Then the third track’s got a cool chick yelling over more pounding drums. Then the next song is awful emo over crappy lofi electro. Then the fifth track is a Polysics-ripoff spazz-out tune. Then a Weezer-ish emo-pop song. You get the idea.
These guys are all over the place, with just some fun drumming and Steve Albini’s trademarked crap-ass production holding it together. The horribly shitty Weezer-wannabe emo-pop tunes alternate with more respectable stuff, but all of it is too eclectic to take seriously or sit through. Too bad cuz they could be balls-out good, but I have no patience for that emo garbage.
Bottom Line: Hedging their indie rock bet with pop-emo.
