The New Lou Reeds have an incredibly stupid name, and that makes me angry. Incidentally, they don’t sound like Lou Reed, but a mix of bluesy rock and shrill 70s swagger.
They’re not as 60s art-rock as other critics have suggested, though I can sorta understand the Pere Ubu comparison. But the comparisons to Captain Beefheart and Neil Young are off the mark. Basically, you have simple bluesy rock, very raw and sloppy, with obnoxiously high, yarling vocals that are between Robert Plant and the Creedance Clearwater guy.
It’s pretty bad.
Bottom Line: Nothing New or Lou Reed-ish about them.
