No Hollywood Ending play an interesting mix of metalcore and melodramatic metal filled with strings and synths. Unfortunately, though, their vocalist’s style ranges from choking-on-vomit metalcore to emo.
In any case, the music outweighs and overshadows the vocals/lyrics. There’s an almost precision-jazz interplay between drums, guitar, and synths, with a lot of time changes and technical wizardry and, what I love, crazy ride cymbal action. The strings and synths actually work here in an alterna-metal-goth way that reminds me a little of Faith No More.
So you’d think they’d give more thought to the vocals considering the rest of the music is so carefully constructed. But, hey, I like Geddy Lee, so I’m sure there are people out there who like vomitty metalcore. And if they do, this is a good lesser-known band to get into.
