Of Sinking Ships is Chad Waldrup of Hopesfall, who plays all instruments and delights us with non-sucky instrumental indie rock.
While indie in nature, the instrumentalism isn’t quite math rock – there aren’t bedazzling feats of musicianship going on here. But the music is super pleasantly melodic, if largely slow-to-midtempo, and I’m always impressed by people who can play multiple instruments (Prince, I’m looking at you, O Purple One!).
I particularly liked the middle tracks (The Circumstances and The Spargo Twin), which have song-like structures and would be a welcome addition any indie-pop band, though vocals still aren’t necessary as the music speaks for itself.
Very pretty, airy music from a surprising Christian metalcore source. And I just wanted to mention that I love the CD cover and packaging because old maps are cool. Nay, the coolest.
Bottom Line: Soothing, melodic instrumental rock from Hopesfall dude.
Notable Tracks: The Circumstances, The Spargo Twin, With One More For Company
