From Minneapolis comes this gritty, heavy punk band whose lyrics are a total downer about death, destruction, decay, desperation, all those D words.
But, damn! The music is somehow incredibly melodic and catchy. It’s remarkable that they funnel all this negativity through upbeat and enjoyable street punk. I haven’t heard such a contradiction of theme and music since the Hotknives’ Home, an unbearably depressing album about the shit side of humanity, set to a shiny, happy, 2-Tone beat.
It makes this band seem much more complex and interesting than their crappy generic hardcore-like name would suggest. Replace the gruff vocals with something more wistful and you might have a Bouncing Souls-like sound, but their coarseness works well for them. It gives them an edge to go along with the depth.
But before you think these guys are doing over-the-top emo-y musicianship, they’re not. This is straight-up, kick-ass punk rock, only without the flat posturing, and with an overarching tone of existential exhaustion.
If you’re totally fucking sick of everything but still want to rock out, pick this up.
