This is really good college-radio alternative rock. Only problem? We’re no longer living in 1994.

The dark, distorted guitars mixed with sweet-laced, sad-yet-hopeful vocals remind me of Smashing Pumpkins if they used Nirvana’s equipment and were fronted by a more masculine Morrissey or less whiney Billy Corgan. I suppose that’s a positive endorsement depending on how you look at it, but the music feels dated. And while well-constructed and by no means sucky, there are no bonafide hits here. They’re good but don’t offer enough justification to be a throwback to the flannel decade.

Bottom Line: I am overwhelmed by their lack of relevance. But they’re ai-aight.
