Instrumental rock is a funny thing. Wait, no it’s not. It’s a boring thing. Especially if it’s midtempo and repetitive.

Parhelia are a four-piece band from Dublin, Ireland, and this is their first EP. Normally I don’t bother with a band’s background, but there’s absolutely nothing to say about the music. The guitars are melodic if uneventful, the bass is non-existent, and the drums are standard 4/4 – barely there themselves. If they had vocals, they would be the most boring bar band on the planet.

At least math rock, as pretentious as it is, can show off some technical prowess. This is so bland, it might as well be food from Ireland.

Bottom Line: Boring 4/4 rock without vocals.
