At first glance I asked myself, Why in Gods name would the Parka Kings put out a live disc?? Then I realized that they broke up, and this is a fun goodbye present from the band to their fans. Which I think is nice – since the CD is like 70 minutes long, you get a lot here.
But personally, I’m not a fan. They have a couple good songs (Radio Song, which is one of them, is on here. The other one is a cover on their second album. I cant remember the name, but I think its the second track. They do an excellent version of it, and I recommend all ska fans to get the album and enjoy that tune), but the bulk of their repertoire is SO boring.
If theres one thing I cant listen to, its bouncy third wave that doesnt work. PK suffered from a weak horn section, weak vocals, and uninspiring songwriting. The bounce just wasnt there. But like their similar sounding (and similar fated) DC-brethren The Skunks, the Parka Kings had a huge legion of dedicated fans. So this final offering is a nice gesture to them, and even this cynical ska snob can appreciate that.
