Ecce Cor Meum is the 4th classical album from The Beatles’ Paul McCartney. Call me sheltered, but I didn’t know he had done classical music before. This album was recorded in March 2006 at Abbey Road Studios and was commissioned by Magdalen College Oxford. Ecce Cor Meum, or “Behold My Heart” uses choir and orchestra, and the choir are singing in Latin and English. To me, it sounds like music recorded around the “Messiah” era, not something you’d hear in 2007. The singing is very soft, and not that loud. The choir singing isn’t powerful or loud like in The Lord of the Rings or O Fortuna.

Sir Paul’s first version of the classical Oratorio was performed back in 2001, conducted by Bill Ives at Oxford. Paul corrected a lot of things that he heard wrong, or something that just needed fixing. What you have here is the final version of his 4th classical album. I love classical music, especially with choirs in them so this album was a nice surprise to hear. I believe the third track “Interlude (Lament)” was written shortly after Linda McCartney’s death. Overall, I liked what I heard and I’m looking forward to hearing what McCartney has in store for us with his classical work.

Bottom Line: While I’m not a total expert on classical music, I think McCartney composed a good classical piece.
