Even though this was released last year in most of the world, the Swedish trio of Peter Bjorn and John are invading North America with their breakthrough album Writer’s Block, released here with a bonus disc. And with good reason too. Because as just another part of the Swedish Invasion, these guys seem ready to fucking own.

You’ve probably already heard their irresistably awesome song ‘Young Folks’, played everywhere from YouTube to Grey’s Anatomy. The good news is the rest of the album is equally as strong. Taking equal parts 60s pop craftmanship and 70s Kraut-rock minimalism, the band put together some great tunes by generally keeping them simple. Percussion lines stay relatively repetitive, but they keep the songs going as the vocal (and whistling) melodies going. It is probably through the simplicity that the songs get stuck in your head.

With some exposure in North America for these guys as well as some of the other upcoming Swedish groups, it’s safe to say that Sweden is the new Canada. If they’re marketed right, Peter Bjorn and John could break out as big as the Arcade Fire. And that would be a great thing.

Bottom Line: Really addictive indie pop that may well take over.
Notable Tracks: Young Folks, Objects of My Affection, Up Against The Wall, Let’s Call it Off
