The Queers are back with a new album, and I have to say, it’s almost as good as Don’t Back Down. I haven’t really listened to the newer Queers albums as much as I would like to, but Munki Brain is one of their stronger albums to date. The Queers’ are now on Asian Man Records, and are having a lot of their older albums re-released on that label as well.
“Overdue” is the first song on the album and it’s a good opener. It gets you in the mood for the Queers’ Beach Boys-punk songs. “Houston We Have a Problem” is the best song on the album and is a really catchy tune. It’s going to be a classic Queers song I think. Third track was written by Ben Weasel and Joe Queer, and it’s called “I Don’t Get It.” Obviously that’s another stand out track, and I wish those two wrote more songs together. The Weasel & Queer duet, come on, that would be a killer album! One song that seemed quite different from the others was the Beach Boy-Pet Sounds style song “I think She’s Starting to Like Me.” It’s not punk, but just a song sung by Joe with a keyboards. Each song is fun to listen to and each one has that beach punk vibe and I love it. Joe’s vocals sound great and haven’t sounded better. Another non-Queers type of song is “Monkey in a Suit” and that’s about our dipshit President. I could go on and on about each song, but that would be just boring. The fact of the matter is, the Queers are awesome and they released one hell of an album!
Bottom Line: Many of the songs sound like typical Queers songs but why change a style that has worked for them over the years
Notable Tracks: Houston We Have a Problem, I Don’t Get It, Girl About Town, Tangerine
