This is one of those bands that sing about rock n’ roll and all its vices, but fail to back their talk up with action. The singer, who’s going for the disaffected garagey thing, doesn’t pack much punch, and the music feels contrived and too familiar (“Rip It Up” should be called “Rip It Off” since it sounds like something stolen from the second Strokes album). “Golden Touch” is a good, slow-yet-stirring song, but the majority of the album is blandwagon garage and additional proof to always be wary of anything Rolling Stone calls a “masterpiece.”
