I’ve always dismissed RBF for their role in popularizing skapop, but now that I’ve stopped worrying and learned to hate the ska, I can’t really hold a grudge anymore.

Plus their new one is pretty decent. Bright horns, poppy tunes, a dose of silliness – it’s a good time, if you’re still into sophomoric, goofy ska. Lyrically, there seems to be an undercurrent of resentment towards the industry, which gives them a little bite, though that might turn off people who stop to wonder what RBF is so bitter about.

In the end, fans won’t be disappointed but it won’t convert anyone. For this kind of ska, there’s only one band that does it for me and that’s the Planet Smashers.
