Not to be confused with River City Rebels, or any other Something City Something, RCH are a Virginia-based punk n’ roll band that hits all the punk n’ roll cliches. I mean, just the title. Cmon now, do we really have to give a nod to Saturday night? If you’re truly punk rock, every night is Saturday night. Well, except for the nights you’re in jail.
But hey, they’re not bad. They play riff-heavy, high-octane rock, and – bless their little souls – they rock out the cowbell. But why do I feel like they’re a little flat or insincere? I think it’s the vocals. When he chants “5-6-7-8” or demands “We Want the Radio,” I just don’t believe in it. It’s sort of like Greg from the Bouncing Souls – nice, wistful vocals but a little too clean and suburban. (Except the Souls are amazing, and these guys are just decent.)
I like that RCH aren’t dripping with sleaze or posturing too much, but when you’ve got such strutting guitars and pounding drums, I think you need a bit more edge to go along with it.
Bottom Line: Clean-cut punk n’ roll that could use more attitude.
Notable Tracks: All the songs with cowbell!
